Entry Requirements
Learners need to have either (a) successfully completed the Core Competences Course in Mathematics or (b) successfully passed the pre-test prior to the commencement of the academic year.
Learning Outcomes
• The use of numbers in everyday contexts (e.g. financial, dimensions, weight, temperature, time, ect.).
• The application of mathematics/numeracy in real life situations.
• The value of numbers in the different contexts.
• The use of mathematical modes of thought (logical and spatial thinking) and its presentation (formulas, models, constructs, graphs/charts).
• The significance of the units of measurement for length, area, weight and capacity.
• The concepts associated with the four number operations (e.g. that multiplication is repeated addition).
• The definition of formulae.
• The identification, sorting and classifying of solid and flat shapes.

on-going assessment, portfolio and checklist, oral and written exercises, presentations and final assessment
Certification/Award
General Education Award in Mathematics. The MQ Council deems this General Education Award (15 credits) to be at level 1 of the MQF and the EQF for Lifelong Learning.
Access to next level of education/training
After successfully completing this course, learners can then progress to the level 2 course to prepare for the eventual SEC level.
