Learning Outcomes
  • The different types of fabric which can be used to be embroidered such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, felt, and canvas.
  • The different tools, equipment and materials necessary to embroider a design on a piece of textile: ring frames, small scissors, shears scissors, embroidery needles, thimble, different tracing implements, designs.
  • The different types and forms of thread which may be acquired from suppliers: wool, cotton, rayon or metallic thread which can be found as stranded or in balls.
  • The list of the various stitches and methods to perform such stitches.
  • The matching of colours using the colour wheel.
  • The methods to produce a finished work.
  • The washing and ironing processes for embroidered items.

Practical and hands-on sessions with tasks designed and related to this course.

Ongoing assessment, portfolio, tutorials and final presentation of works.
Certification/Award
Vocational Education and Training Award in Embroidery. The National Commission for Further and Higher Education deems this VET Award (7 credits) to be at Level 1 of the MQF.
Access to next level of education/training
After successfully completing this course, learners can then proceed to Open Class.
