Entry Requirements
Learners must have successfully completed SEC Level in Chemistry.
Learning Outcomes
  • Recall and apply the atomic structure and bonding theory, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and instrumental analysis as appropriate.
  • Communicate ideas and concepts using grammatical forms in both oral and written formats.
  • Recognise the importance of safety in a chemistry laboratory and practise appropriate safety rules and policies whenever conducting an experimental investigation.
  • Demonstrate the abilities and skills that (a) are relevant to the study and practice of science; (b) are useful in everyday life; (c) encourage eficient and safe practice; (d) encourage the presentation of information and ideas appropriate for different audiences and purposes; (e) develop self-motivation and the ability to work in a sustained fashion.
  • Ensure the development of attitudes relevant to science such as accuracy and precision, objectivity, integrity, enquiry, initiative, insight.
  • Stimulate interest in, and care for, the environment.
  • Comply with the fact that (a) the study and practice of science are co-operative and cumulative activities, and are subject to social, economic, technological, ethical and cultural influences and limitations; (b) the applications of science may be both beneficial and detrimental to the individual, the community and the environment; (c) science transcends national boundaries and that the language of science, correctly and rigorously applied, is universal; (d) the use of information technology is important for communication, as an aid to experiments and as a tool for interpretation of experimental and theoretical results.
