Entry Requirements
Applicants need to have basic sewing skills.
Learning Outcomes

• The methods of conversion of fibres into fabric such as spinning and weaving. 
• The different types of fabric: natural or man made. 
• The names of components (e.g. fringes, ribbons, beads and some cords) which are used for decoration     purpose. 
• The use of heading tape, Velcro and linings and the purpose of their use. 
• The width for different curtain fabrics, commonly known as drop. 
• The different types of texture of fabric and the different fabric weights. 
• The kind of furnishing fabrics which are suitable for particular projects. 
• The variety of plain simple rails available. 
• The methods to cut, shape and form cloth to specified tolerances. 
• The importance of making a work plan and interpret measurements and instructions. 
• The use of patterned, striped and checked fabric, 
• The meaning of symbols on care labels. 
• The use of balance marks and notches.

Discussions, hands-on sessions, tutorials and final project.

Ongoing assessment and portfolio.
Certification/Award
Vocational Education and Training Award in Curtain Making and Soft Furnishings. The National Commission for Further and Higher Education deems this VET Award (7 credits) to be at Level 1 of the MQF.

After successfully completing this course, learners can then proceed to Open Class.
