Beading Techniques (Level 2)

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have finished Beading MQF 1

Duration

30 week course with 3 contact hours per week

Outcome

Knowledge

  • The relationship between primary colors and the methods used to mix them to create new colors.
  • The impact of varying bead sizes on a uniform stitch to alter the final style or type of jewelry.
  • The compatibility and combination of different stitches (such as combining ladder stitch or square stitch with brick stitch).
  • The structural distinction between increasing or decreasing within the body of a piece versus on the outside edges only.
  • The visual and structural effects generated by the application of shaping techniques.
  • The methods required to craft structural tubular objects without the utilization of molds.
  • The fundamental techniques and principles of wire working.
  • The selection criteria for different types of wire based on project requirements (such as floral designs versus jewelry items).

 Skills

  • The selection of beads in appropriate colors, shades, and sizes to suit specific project designs.
  • The application of the color wheel to achieve harmonic color patterns.
  • The recognition and execution of diverse stitch types.
  • The matching of specific bead types to appropriate stitches and projects.
  • The seamless transition between multiple stitch types within a single piece to create composite designs.
  • The manipulation of project width through the addition or removal of beads.
  • The widening or narrowing of work across varying stitch styles.
  • The expansion of odd-numbered vertical rows, stabilized by weaving back into the foundation.
  • The reduction of row lengths via bead omission and subsequent secure weaving back into the body of the work.
  • The combination of specialized stitches (including square stitch, peyote, brick stitch, and netting) to form tubular structures.
  • The application of tubular beadwork for ornamental purposes, such as dressing ceramic dolls.
  • The proficient operation of wire working tools.
  • The installation of clasps without knots through the use of crimp beads and metal findings.
  • The fabrication of intricate ornaments, such as leaves and flowers, using wire techniques.

Competences

  • The autonomous creation of a beading project incorporating multiple colors and sizes of beads.
  • The production of beadwork that integrates varying stitches within the same piece.
  • The execution of a project shaped through precise increasing and decreasing techniques.
  • The design and completion of a tubular project utilizing a combination of stitches.
  • The successful creation of finished, beaded wire jewelry.
  • The synthesis of two or more learned techniques into a neat, creative final project
