Online learning, also known as e-learning, refers to learning through digital technologies and the internet. Instead of physical classroom settings, online learning allows students to access educational materials, engage in lessons, and interact with educators or peers through lifelong learning’s dedicated online provision, known as eCollege.

Through eCollege, the Directorate offers both live and self-paced online courses.

Online Learning:

A)    Live classes (synchronous)
B)    Self-paced classes (asynchronous)

An online live course, also referred to as a synchronous course, requires students to login at a specific time and participate in live, real-time sessions and discussions with their educators and other course participants. Sessions are also recorded so that learners can refer to the recordings when revising. There is a wide range of courses across categories offered in this mode.

Self-paced Classes (Asynchronous Learning)

Another form of online learning is known as self-paced, or asynchronous learning. This means that there are no set meeting time, and learners can complete the course material at their own pace and on their own time.

Self-paced courses are offered via a dedicated section within Lifelong Learning’s eCollege, known as Learning Box. This is an online platform that provides digital educational opportunities that are accessible at any point in the learning process. Using this method, student scan advance their education, acquire new skills, or reskill their talents, in away that is flexible and tailored to their individual needs.

Self-paced courses become available once the required number of learners have enrolled.

Applications for self-paced courses are accepted between October and mid-March. Interested participants can apply at any time during this period. Participants have until the end of May to complete the course at their own pace, regardless of the initial commencement date.
