Entry Requirements

No specific entry requirements are needed for this level. For online lessons, learners need to have an understanding on how to use a computer.

Duration

30-week course with 3 contact hours per week.

Learning Outcomes

Expected learning outcomes for this course inlcude:

Knowledge
• Understand basic Portuguese vocabulary, expressions and sentence structures
• Understand elementary written texts and commonly used phrases in Portuguese
• Develop awareness of Portuguese grammar, culture and customs
• Recognise language used in everyday personal, social and work-related situations

Skills
• Read and understand simple texts, notices and conversations in Portuguese
• Construct simple grammatically correct sentences in Portuguese
• Exchange basic information and communicate using familiar expressions
• Write personal details and complete simple forms in Portuguese
• Use basic language strategies to communicate effectively in predictable situations

Competences
• Communicate using simple spoken and written Portuguese in everyday situations
• Listen, speak, read and write at an elementary level in Portuguese
• Apply basic Portuguese language skills independently in familiar contexts

Certification/Award

An award certificate accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority will be presented to learners who attend a minimum of 80% of the course and achieve an overall mark of 45% or higher in their tasks.
